Review: SGU 1.08 Time

I think this episode might be my favorite of all the aired ones so far. Which is strange, because it has all the elements that have become cliche in a lot of scifi and a lot of the Stargate shows in particular: time travel, character changes and deaths that gets reset at the end of the episode, lethal bugs that infects everyone, (dangerous) source for cure on a conveniently nearby planet…

I should’ve been bored to death, but I wasn’t… it just somehow managed to come together just right. I liked the look of the planet, I liked the intensity, I liked how the first half of the episodes made scratch my head wondering why it was though a kino all the time but happily had a logical reason. I liked finding out new tidbits about TJ and Eli, and liked seeing their reactions to the video.

The thing I’m disappointed with is that all the important character stuff happened in timelines that didn’t stick, didn’t become the Prime Timeline – they only get the video Scott recorded in the end, see none of those character moments in the cave etc. – and it’s such a pity that all that deeper character stuff and changes in cast goes out the window just like pretty much every time in SG-1 and SGA eps :( I hope they’d find a way around that, but I’m not holding my breath.

PS. Hopefully everyone quits harassing Eli about filming everything, it’s been getting old and now it actually saves their lives.

I also think I’m pointing Eli as the expedition documentarist, it’s the best reason to explain to me what the hell he is doing there ’cause I’m sure as hell not buying the official reason (as it’s been presented so far anyways).
